These beautiful ladies are not only our patients for the month of April, but they are also part of our amazing staff! Olivia (left) is an amazingly talented opera singer when she's not in our office and Alicia was with us until a few months ago when she pursued a career in public relations. Appearance plays a big part of the theater and the p.r. world so these girls made sure they looked their best! Working at our office opened their eyes to options and treatments that have enhanced their already natural beauty.

Olivia and Alicia have both had Botox treatments for wrinkle correction, as well as wrinkle prevention. To even out their skin tone and make their skin glow, they have had several chemical peels. They both also got fillers in heir lips for a natural-looking enhancement. It's not just about looking good...it's about feeling good (and the way that makes you look)!

You Want Me To Do What??

Recently, actress Carey Mulligan has been heard verbally bashing the doctor in Los Angeles who suggested she try botox after she asked him what to do about the wrinkles around her eyes. To be honest, I don’t know why she is so surprised the doctor recommended it. If you approach a doctor with a problem they should give you all of your options. If your concern is wrinkles around your eyes then botox should be mentioned as a possible treatment option. What Carey is not aware of is that botox is not just used for correction purposes; it can be used to prevent wrinkles as well.

Carey says she is upset that the doctor offered it to her because she is 25 years old. I can say from people that I have known that at 25 years old you can have sun damage and wrinkles if you did not take care of your skin well. That is why I’m glad I had older sisters to guide me towards the sun block aisle (thank you!). The point is: don’t shoot the messenger Carey. The doctor gave you your options and you can choose to do what you want without don’t publicly attacking him or something other people believe in.

Brothers and Sisters Talks Plastic Surgery

Did you all catch Sunday nights episode of Brothers and Sisters on ABC? Well if you didnt, Nora Walker talks to Sarah about how since they are aging they should consider plastic surgery.

Nora wants a facelift and Sarah just wants a couple Botox shots to the forehead. When Kevin finds out, he also inquires about getting a browlift or a blepharoplasty! In the episode you dont see them go for the consultation but they discuss it before and after the supposed event.

Nora thought that she needed to look younger in order to be taken seriously in a working environment. But in the end Nora's brother Saul Holden convinces her to appreciate her fine lines and wrinkles as memoirs of a great life.

It seems plastic surgery is all over the media these days and pop culture is incorporating it into American sitcoms as well.

Kim Kardashian Talks Botox

Airing this past Sunday, Kim Kardashian under went Botox® treatments to her crowsfeet around her eyes on Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Kardashian who probably is no stranger to plastic surgery procedures had a mild meltdown about the bruising that occurred under her eyes from the product.

As a result of a flood of attention and emails from America, Kardashian released this statement on her blog:

“I’ve been getting lots of emails and comments regarding the botox episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians so I wanted to address this today to clear some things up.

On the show you saw I had some bruising around my eyes after the procedure, which is totally natural, but because I hadn’t looked into the side effects, I freaked out. In no way was Dr. Kassabian a bad doctor… it wasn’t a botched job at all!!

I am not against botox, and I would never judge anyone else for getting any kind of surgical or non surgical procedure, but I think when you’re young there are other ways you can look after your skin, and some amazing products on the market, like Fusion Beauty’s Illumifill, that help keep you looking young and beautiful. Botox just wasn’t necessary for me at this age.”

Besides the obvious paid product placement, I feel Kardashian handled the matter well. She admitted she didn’t appropriately prepare and that she over-reacted.

My money still is on that shell go back for another syringe though!

Kate Gosselin: Mommy of Eight to Sexy Mama

Since Kate Gosselin first appeared on "Jon and Kate Plus 8"a lot has changed; not just Gosselin's celebrity status but also her body. We have seen Gosselin go from "mommy of eight" to "sexy mama" after a tummy tuck and inception of a fitness regimen. However, many are beginning to speculate that Gosselin's new look may be the result of multiple procedures.

For starters, Gosselin appeared on the cover of People Magazine with a great figure and round, perky breasts. It is a known fact that most women lose some of their breast volume after having children. Breasts can begin to demonstrate pstosis or sagging, but not Gosselin's breasts! Though it cannot be confirmed, her breasts may look this good as a result of a breast augmentation and/or mastopexty or lift.

Additionally, rumors have circulated that Gosselin may be an avid fan of Botox, or have undergone liposuction of the submental area of the face (the area below the chin) as her face is taught and skin is smooth. Gosselin may have also undergone other surgical procedures. Our very own Dr. Jennifer Walden says, "Looking at recent photos of her in a bikini, she [Gosselin] may have had liposuction of her thighs as well. In addition, her chin is much more well-defined in recent photos which could be the result of submental liposuction and a chin implant." Whatever you're doing Kate, keep doing it! You look great!

Beauty Buzz About Queen B

Have you heard the new beauty buzz about the Queen B?

Well, according to published reports 63 year old Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, aka the wife of Prince Charles, has been in the British news lately for her apparent treatments of bee venom in lieu of Botox®.

Called an "organic facelift” for $85 you can undergo a masking procedure that "stings" the skin to stimulate production of bodily chemicals that will relax muscles and reduce wrinkles.

I think however that she still looks like time has taken a toll on her skin, I’ll stick with my Botox® and leave the hives to the royal wives.

Another Montag, Another Plastic Surgery Procedure

Watching The Hills last night I was blown away at how far the girls have come since their days as interns at Teen Vogue. Equally astonishing was how amazing Holly Montag looked, the famous sister of Hills star Heidi Montag.

I definetely think she has undergone a rhinoplasty, along with treatments for Botox and dermal fillers in her lips.

What do you guys think? Is Speidi's sister falling into the web of celebrity plastic surgery obsession? Or do you think her minimal procedures make her look great and she'll probably just quit while she's ahead?

She has that frozen look from Botox.” Dr. Walden agrees saying it, “appears she has undergone Botox injections to her forehead and crow’s feet to give it that smooth appearance.”
3. Cheeks: Almost all the surgeons we spoke with agreed Megan has had her cheeks filled. “Her cheeks have been enhanced, maybe with a filler like Radiesse, Juvederm, or Restylane,” says Dr.Bruce Katz of the Juva Skin and Laser Center in Manhattan. Dr. Steven Pearlman, a NYC plastic surgeon notes the actress has, “jumped on the facial filler bandwagon. Her cheeks appear fuller and more round.” Dr. Katz claims that this procedure in particular is becoming very popular with women in their twenties!

Real Housewife Ramona Singer Says No Surgery

By now I'm sure all of you loyal blog followers are aware of my number 1 fan status of the Real Housewives of New York City.

In case you haven't watched the Reunion show yet off your DVRs here is a non-spoiler from what you missed off the first episode trilogy special.

Last night Ramona Singer vocalized that she does NOT get plastic surgery, only injectables which she said was "not plastic surgery, everyone gets injectables."

Well you got that one right, Ramonacoaster, everyone whos anyone gets injectables.

Cant wait for my new favorite housewife Sonja Morgan to break into the special. And by favorite I mean favorite after Bethenny and Jill-villian, because my fingers are still crossed that these 2 frienemies make up.

Sex and the City 2: Samantha Denies Plastic Surgery but Plugs Botox

I won a contest yesterday from MCPriceless and was lucky enough to be given two tickets to the WORLD PREMIERE of Sex and the City 2: Carrie On!

The movie was filled with fabulous clothes (lots of Halston Heritage and Dior) and a surprise performance by Liza Minnelli doing Single Ladies by Beyonce.

Specifically one interesting plotline was when the girls were at brunch and the character Samantha (played by the stunning Kim Cattrell) said she hadn’t had any plastic surgery procedures done and was “all natural,” but then later in the film admitted to having used Botox®.

Catrell has regularly admitted in the press that she uses Botox®, and after seeing her in person, I also think she has gotten a chemical peel, as her skin is flawless.

While all of these leading ladies look great, I can’t help but push front my opinion of Palin getting a couple cc’s of Botox to those crow's feet!

When is the Right Time to Get Botox?

Botox has become a household name as a cosmetic treatment to reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the face caused by facial muscle contraction. The on label use for Botox is for injection of the lines, or the "11", between the brows. Off label uses include for the fine lines emanating from the lateral corners of the eyes ("crow's feet"), and the furrows of the head caused by frontalis muscle contraction. Those are the transverse lines that you see when someone raises their brow or looks surprised. Also, Dysport is a competing product that is very similar to Botox and was recently approved by the FDA for use.

Lately there has been a lot of buzz about the average age of women (and men to a lesser extent) seeking Botox for the treatment of wrinkles. In the video below, I describe how and why younger women would seek Botox, when it would or would not be indicated, and what the difference is between soft tissue fillers (substances that are used to provide volume in deflated areas of the face) and Botox, a temporary and selective muscle paralytic. This video can be found on the Plastic Surgery Channel (based in Dallas, TX), an awesome source of information about cosmetic surgery procedures as well as a quality source of news on the topic of plastic and reconstructive surgery.

In the video, I explain that fine superficial lines that come from age, sun exposure, and smoking are best treated with resurfacing agents like chemical peels or laser...for young 'uns I would recommend a light peel like alpha-hydroxy acid or glycolic acid over one of the more aggressive peels like TCA or phenol (and prevention by staying out of the sun and not smoking). The thing to remember about chemical peels is that afterwards, redness and peeling can occur for up to two to three weeks, and sunblock and/or sun avoidance is an absolute must to avoid pigmentation problems as your face heals!

Does Botox Cure Baldness??!

I was flipping through the channels and guess who I see on Fox and Friends? Dr. Walden! She was on Fox discussing top medical news. The segment I found most interesting was about a dermatologist who claimed that Botox helped regrow hair when he injected a patient for the treatment of migraines (an off-label use of Botox)! Wow! I am actually a big fan of Botox. I'm only 26 now and I haven't used it but I certainly see using it in the future. But using Botox to grow hair?? Hmmm. Lets see, most women use Botox on their foreheads, the glabella (aka the 11 between the eyes) and crow's feet (those pesky little lines around the eyes) and if Botox helps regenerate hair growth, imagine how many women in the world would be sporting "unibrows" and peach fuzz!  But like the saying goes...Don't believe the hype.....Botox has not been shown to cure or prevent baldness in any randomized, controlled clinical trials. Botox Cosmetic (Allergan, Irvine, CA) is approved by the United States FDA for improving and relaxing frown lines in the area between the eyes an and has been used successfully in more than half a million patients since 2002. It blocks a neurotransmitter from being released at the junction between nerves, inhibiting the impulse that causes muscle contraction.  It is also used for blepharospasm (twitching eyelids), strabismus, and hyperhydrosis (sweaty palms and armpits). Oh well, I guess its back to the Rogaine and a little volumizing conditioner!

Lisa Rinna: How She Gets "Rinnivated"

Lisa Rinna appeared on the Today show on Monday to promote her new book Rinnivation: Getting Your Best Life Ever. This book is apparently about how to reinvent yourself at any age. In a recent article in US Weekly Magazine, Lisa dishes about how she keeps her toned abs, wrinkle-free face, tan skin and luscious lips. She admits to getting medical-grade silicone injected in her lips 23 years ago. Since this procedure she says she has only had cortisone injected to soften the scar tissue. The article goes on to say that Lisa underwent breast augmentation in 2002 to restore her breast shape after giving birth to her two daughters. Her wrinkle-free face can be attributed to Botox injections, which she reportedly gets performed every four months. She states that she has sworn off dermal fillers after treatments in September of last year left her looking like a "pumpkin." As far as her toned abs, lean legs and slim physique; she attributes that to diet and exercise!

And you'll never guess her age......45!

Jenny Loves Botox!

Funny gal and former playmate Jenny McCarthy (36) has openly admitted to using and loving Botox, the popular injectable for facial lines around the eyes and forehead. According to Make Me Heal news, Jenny has been quoted as saying "I love Botox, I absolutely love it...I get it minimally, so I can still move my face. But I really do think it’s a savior”. I think Jenny looks absolutely beautiful and by the look of her face she does Botox moderately and does not look overdone. She still has facial expression and her skin is smooth. She may also have had skin treatments like facials and peels.
Jenny is no stranger to plastic surgery as she is rumored to have had breast augmentation.

Susan Lucci Still Looking Good at 62

Susan Lucci (62) looks incredible for her age. According to MakeMeHeal.com it is speculated that Ms. Lucci has had several procedures done in moderation such as a facelift, browlift, upper and lower blepharoplasty, chemical peels, Botox, and fillers. As the star of All of My Children and with numerous appearances on infomercials and reality shows such as Dancing With The Stars she has shown television longevity and her infamous smile she always has.

Faye Dunaway - Who Thinks She's Seen Dr. Sloan?

Who watches Grey's Anatomy??

Did anyone see the last episode where Faye Dunaway plays Dr. Campbell? I think she may have visited Dr. Sloan while 

she was there! Born in 1941 (that makes her 68) she is looking pretty young in the face. It appears as though she has had a facelift, maybe some Botox, perhaps some laser treatments and a blepharoplasty (eye lift). I cannot be sure, but she does have the "pulled" look from a facelift, or perhaps multiple facelifts.

Rebecca Romijn's Rockin' Post-Baby Bod

Rebecca Romijn (36) and Jerry O'Connell (34) are the proud parents of Dolly Rebecca Rose and Charlie Tamara Tulip, born Dec. 28. Although its only been approximately over a month after Rebecca has given birth to TWINS, she definitely has gotten her body back in shape!
Rebecca has no prior history of getting any cosmetic procedure done and according to Star Pulse, although she's against getting any procedure done, she is definitely open to injectables such as Botox. Botox can be used for crows feet around the eyes, forehead and the "11 line". Whatever she is doing as of now, she looks great and an inspiration for all of us to get in shape!

Botox Boom before Obama's Inauguration

During the last few weeks it seems as though Botox bottles have been popped open as much as champagne in preparation for the historic Obama Inauguration and festivities in Washington, D.C. According to USA today, "Washington, D.C.-area cosmetic dermatologists, and skin experts in other major cities, say despite the sagging economy, requests for quickie cosmetic fixes, such as Botox and microdermabrasion, have picked up during the last few weeks as people pretty-up for inaugural fetes." USA today also spoke with a Washington, D.C. cosmetic dermatologist Tina Alster who said, ""We have been absolutely swamped since the election with people desiring rejuvenation procedures for the upcoming inauguration."

Clearly, stars such as Sheryl Crow and Jamie Fox need to look their very best for such a historical event and look like they may have gotten Botox treatments (sshh!). Jamie Fox's forehead appears relatively immobile as he makes face for the camera on HBO's We Are One Inaugural Special (see video). Sheryl Crow also shows off her fantastic wrinkle-free forehead, and a tad bit lower brow than we are used to seeing (a telltale sign). Her forehead remains crinkle-free as she smiles, suggesting she may get Botox injections in her forehead and glabellar muscles. Besides the Inauguration taking place today there are 10 official galas and dozens of attendant parties and events, many that are being thrown by celebrities themselves. Despite the recession, it seems that cosmetic procedures are getting back in the game as people try to look their best for such events!

Debra Messing with Her Looks

Looking at recent photos of Debra Messing, including at the Golden Globes. Although hip trendsetter Messing has stated that she is afraid of plastic surgery, we are not sure what is going on. Messing is great-looking and keeping in shape in her forties, although Botox maybe in the mix for her somewhat "bright eyed", ironed-out forehead appearance.

Debra has taken the part of the non-Latino in her husband's Puerto Rican family in her new film, "Nothing like the Holidays." Although, we can see that Debra Messing is coming into her age, she may have the help of injectables like Botox and fillers.
